How Does cPFence Handle Bots? Customize Your Bot Protection

cPFence currently detects and blocks over 800 different bots, helping to reduce server load and mitigate various attacks and risks. Additionally, the cPFence IPDB module significantly improves server performance by reducing unwanted bot traffic.

Managing User Agents

If you need to manage or add custom user agents to be blacklisted or whitelisted, you can do so by editing the following files:

  • For blacklisting user agents:

/opt/cpfence/app/cpfwaf/userdata_bl_agents
  • For whitelisting user agents:

/opt/cpfence/app/cpfwaf/userdata_wl_agents

SEO Bots Whitelisted by Default

To prevent issues with SEO services, cPFence whitelists popular SEO-related bots by default, in addition to search engine bots like Google and Bing. The following bots are included in the default whitelist:

AhrefsBot
dotbot
rogerbot
SplitSignalBot
SemrushBot
SiteAuditBot

This ensures your clients can continue using these services without disruption, reducing complaints and support tickets.
